PIN IT FRIDAY FAVS:
Mother's Day Cards and the
Very Best of Pinterest Pins

Erma Bombeck, a humorist and columnist once wrote, "The hardest part of being a mom is showing up for the job each day!" Happiest of Mother's Day to all of you who have not only shown up for the job each day, but who deserve the Employee of the Year award year after year!...and to my own two sons who are now young men, thank you for giving me the most wonderful job on the planet! Along with my DH, my life has been truly blessed thanks to the three most important men in my life ^_^

I've seen a lot of beautiful floral cards on Pinterest lately that would make lovely Mother's Day cards. These are some of my treasured finds and cards made for some of my favorite moms:

CARD CHICKS REUNITE!

The projects we made last week included a few modifications to Pinterest pins I recently added to my boards. The first was a simple EXTRA gum craft:

I purchased the gum packages from Costco and the decorative corner punch is by Martha Stewart. The base was created on my computer and the Chicks stamped the "SWEET" (from Michael's Dollar Bin) then added embellishments. It was fun to see all of their creativity as they were all different when completed ^_^

HERE is the Original Pin:

i think your EXTRA cool printable valentie's day tags...just add the gum

Then they made a simple tri-panel card (using Stampin' Up's banner punch) that can be modified to fit any occasion. The card folds up and fits into those standard envelopes sold in drugstores or dollar stores. (The actual box of envelopes is shown below in the last photo for this project):

Inside Sentiment: SU You Are Loved
Outside Sentiment: Michael's from Dollar Stamp Bin

MEASUREMENTS:
6" by 9 3/4" DSP
Along the 9 3/4" side,
score at 3 1/2" and 7" then use a
decorative punch on the far right edge

Here's a birthday card I made using the same idea:

...and a thank you note:

NOTE: You get 80 envelopes in one box!
TIP: Line the envelope with matching paper

For the third project, the Chicks made a simple embossing folder card using the SU Bird Builder Punch:

Outside Sentiment:
Express Yourself (SU)
Inside Sentitments:
You Are Loved (SU) and
Heard from the Heart (SU)

HERE is the original Pinterest pin:

I started out doing the one button CAS challenge but forgot the button LOL! DOH! So here is my Clean and Simple card that doesn't even have a button on it LOL It's been ages since I uploaded something so hopefully this will be the first of many :-) **EDIT** Just want to add that this card was inspired by a card I recieved last Christmas from SCS's own Lydia :-)

The last project was the Valentine Kitten Treat:

The details were explained HERE in this previous post. Here are some final Card Chicks pics that made me smile:

SU THINLET

I'm having so much fun using the SU circle thinlet that my friend Michele let me borrow! BIG thank you hugs, M! The thinlet cuts and scores a flip card in one quick pass through my Cuttlebug...and I came up with another way to add some design with function to extend the card for a sentiment or a note (instructions follow below). MANY thanks as well to my friend Rina who showed me how to make the little lamb from punches that she'll be using soon for her daughter's baby shower!

My first flip card attempt...but the green scalloped circle didn't seem to add anything to the card...so I decided to go with the SIMPLE IS SOMETIMES BETTER idea!

I'm giving this one to my mom for her birthday this week.
I put it in a clear envelope and used it
as part of the decorations on the package:

Then I made the same card with a different piece of DSP:

The sheep was made by using a 3/4" circle punch for the head, a 1/2" circle punch of black cut in half for the ears, one scallop punch and the swirls embossing folder for the white body, two heart punches in black with one side of the heart cut off for the two legs and three small flower punches for the top of the head. Two tiny black adhesive gems were added for the eyes. The head was attached to the body with foam squares and the sheep was also adhered to the card using foam squares.

Next, I made this congrats card for Rina:

...and here is the step-by-step technique
for extending this flip card:

After running the paper through the thinlet and
folding it into a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card...

Turn over the double-sided DSP on the right and...

I'm feeling like Santa in his workshop as I put these flip cards together! It's hard to stop making them because they're just so fun and so different with each set of papers used! Here is another way to make a flip card with an extension:

All sentiments are from Stampin' Up or
were done on my computer.

A video by the talented Patty Bennett demonstrates this way to make an extension for flip cards - Click HERE . She starts to give the extension technique at about the 4:58 mark....and here's another brilliant idea below from PATTY'S STAMPING SPOT if you're making the short version of the flip card. The pics show how to adhere a piece of DSP to the card base before running the thinlet through the Cuttlebug so that the thinlet die can cut out the little crescent moon for you:

There are tons of flip card samples on her site as well.

NEW TOYS!

I made some cards with my sister and mom recently. My sister, Janie, just bought over SU's Papillon Potpourri set, the 2 coordinating punches for that set and Giggle Greetings so we could play. (See the SU June 2013-May 2014 catalog, page 90, 183 and 29.) We made the card below with the Giggle Greetings cat...

...and the silver bow was the finishing touch that really made this card a WOW card! Brilliant idea, Janie!...and then we made some butterfly cards...LOVE those butterflies! The adhesive gems for the body parts make this card pop!

I bought my embossing folder for the cards below from UCUTATHOME that my friend, Mel, brought to our last Card Divas meeting. I just had to have it!...and this is my first card below with that folder using the extra butterflies I stamped and punched out with my sister's new SU toys:

I sent this card to my pen pal, LA, to thank her for the surprise she sent to me in the mail! You can see Mel's original card that she had us make HERE. Then I showed that card to my coworker and as soon as she saw it....she had to order that embossing folder, too! The folder is made by Darice and it's called BUTTERFLIES IN CORNER. (See ucutathome link above or order from ebay.) It sure makes for a quick but elegant card! Thanks, Mel!...and here is another set of cards made with this folder. I made these cards with my oh! so talented neighbor Ava who is only 7 years old! Her cards turned out so well that I had to check on the back of the cards for my handmade label to make sure I got my cards and she got hers!

My Triple Time Stamping Card

I tried the triple time stamping technique shown on my blog HERE and made this card for my mom. She just returned from a month-long trip to China where she taught English to students at Jiangnan University in Wuxi, China. Her students loved her so much and she let me read their wonderful thank you and goodbye notes written to her! My mom said the trip really made her appreciate the things we take for granted every day. Glad you're home, Mom!
