PIN IT FRIDAY FAVS:
Father's Day Cards and the
Very Best of Pinterest Pins

Father's Day will soon be here and I found the perfect card to make for the dads in our family:

Original Pin HERE

My Version:

To make the shirt collar with the gray pattern on it, I cut down 1 1/2" in the center and the white shirt collar was made by cutting down 1" in the center. I wish I had attached the white shirt paper to the printed paper first before adhering to the black layer so the edges would have aligned a bit better.

This WOW! card has a moving
camera shutter effect inside:

Sandi includes a terrific video tutorial that is a must watch and she even included all of the measurements below the video on her blog post HERE. The inside shutter effect will surely cause the recipients to say WOW!

My Version:

...and here's a little video I made to quickly
show how this card works...click HERE then click
on the little play icon in the upper right corner.

It did take me a time or two to perfect a template for the inside moving parts as shown below. It also helps to lay the inside parts in the card before attaching to see if adjustments are needed. Placing the 1/4" sticky tape close to - but not on - the fold/score line is also helpful.

My sister's 60th birthday is in June. She loves blue and this is the card I made her:

PIN IT FRIDAY FAVS:
Cool Cards and the
Very Best of Pinterest Pins

These gorgeous double-sided step cards with floating butterflies and fantastic step-by-step instructions caught my eye:

or

This is my version:

The floating butterflies are made possible by using thin strips of acetate attached to each butterfly from the inside of the right and left panels. They actual look like they are suspended in mid air!

....and I also learned how to make tunnel
cards recently:

The original card idea was featured by Frenchie on her Stamp and Scrap blog with these two posts HERE and HERE:

She included a video for the snowman card above on her blog and demo'd two versions of tunnel cards via a live stamping event. Here are the measurements for the landscape and portrait versions.

Landscape Tunnel Card
  • Card Base: 4 1/4" x 11" score at 5 1/2"
  • Inside Insert: 4" x 9 1/2" score along the 9 1/2" side at 3", 6" and 9"
  • Cut along 1/2" section to create 3/4" tabs at the top and bottom (Frenchie's video HERE shows how to do this)
Portrait Tunnel Card
  • Card Base: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" score at 4 1/4"
  • Inside Insert: 5" x 6 1/2" score along 6 1/2" side at 2", 4" and 6" or
  • Inside Insert Version 2 for snowman card: 4 3/4" x 5 3/4" (see note below) score along 5 3/4" side at 1 3/4", 3 1/2" 5 1/4" NOTE: 5 3/4" is correct even though Frenchie posted 5 1/2" on her blog. She does state 5 3/4" in her video tutorial.
  • Cut out 1/2" section to create tabs at the top and bottom
Check out this variation of tunnel cards with a tutorial posted on Splitcoast Stampers HERE:

The inside insert measures 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" scored along the long side at  2 1/8", 4 1/4" and 6 3/8".

Shutter Cards and the
Very Best of Pinterest Pins

For a new variation on the simple shutter card that gives you room to write a note, check this out:
The entire pdf  with instructions are HERE.
Thank you, Sandy Allnock!

She did these additional trifold shutter cards:

Then I found a set of instructions for a double shutter card:

Beccy's Place: Tutorial: Double Shutter Card (aka Double Display Card)
Original Pin HERE

...and here's my modified variation based on this version:

I took a 12" x 12" piece of solid card stock and cut it in half to create 2 pieces that measure 6" x 12." Along the 12" length of both pieces, I scored at 2", 4", 6" and 8." At 2" inches from the right and left sides, cut down from the 2" score line to the 8" score line. Add a 4.5" x 6" panel to the left and right sides to finish the front of the card. This shutter card is the perfect one to highlight a 4"x6" picture on the back panel.

Next...I found a very impressive triple shutter card and terrific tutorial by Tanya Dawn Richards on Pinterest. This is the type of card that you would only make for a card-worthy friend who would appreciate all of the time and materials that goes into a handmade creation! Here's my version:

It's the longest card I've ever made at THREE FEET LONG! It took quite awhile to make BUT I'm giving it to a friend and talented card maker who never throws away my cards! Here are Tayna's samples:

Video #86 Double Tri-shutter card - YouTube
For the video tutorial and original pin, click HERE.

The basic instructions to go along with the video are as follows:
  • Cut 2 pieces of 12" x 12" card stock to 4 pieces of 6" x 12" card stock
  • Take 2 pieces of 6" x 12" card stock and trim to 6" by 8"
  • Score the 2 pieces of 6" x 12" pieces along the 12" length at 2", 4", 8" and 10"
  • Score the 2 pieces of 6" x 8" pieces along the 8" side at 2" and 6"
  • Take the 2 pieces of 6" x 12" card stock and along the 12" length, cut at 1 3/4" from each side starting at the 2" score line down to the 10" score line
  • Take the 2 pieces of 6" x 12" card stock and fold up at 2" and back down at 4", then fold up at 8" and back down at 10" like a fan
  • Take the middle section and reverse both folds on both pieces of 6" x 12" card stock
  • Take both of the 6" x 8" pieces and fold the first fold up and the second one down
  • Then continue as directed in the video starting at the time of 6:58
  • To decorate this card, you'll need:
    • From one piece of DSP: 4 pieces of 1 3/4" by 5 3/4", 4 pieces of 1 1/2" x 3 3/4" and 4 pieces of  1 3/4" x 2 1/4"
    • From a coordinated piece of DSP: 8 pieces of 1 3/4" x 1 1/2" and 4 pieces of 2 1/4 x 3
  • NOTE: The punch that is used in the video is called Tiara by Easy Cut Crafts and can be purchased HERE.
