MAY CARD DIVAS MEETING

Here are the projects for our May Card Divas' meeting:

Making Michele's card took us back to our childhood days when we played with paper dolls! It was fun to play like that as adults, too, as we designed the style for the dress form die cut.

Loved Alice's clever idea of using an oval punch (snipping on the top and bottom plus adding a wire) to make a stylish vase! The greenery was created by cutting strips of paper and adhering them with a glue dot then a foam square --- it's an easy idea with impressive results and it looked like a pricey Papyrus card when we were finished!

Christie showed us how to use three small glue dots on the back right and left sides to hold the twine and conserve it, too. This color combo is one of my favs! She pre-cut the flowers and added the glitz for us --- thanks, Christie!

Mel had us use a circle punched out of a Post It Note to create a mask for the white moon. It was a stunning card and now I'm looking at my stamp sets to see how I can make more cards using this technique! It would make a great Halloween card in yellow, orange and purple, too!

This possible Father's Day card from Katie was a big hit! She had us apply a liquid product to the frame to make it look 3D when it dried. I loved this idea! 

Here's the product we used to get the 3D effect on the black frame around the dog:

The tip on the bottle is very thin and it also allows one to control the rate of flow from the tip. I liked it a lot - better than some others I've tried! My project for the ladies was a card holder for 2 to 4 cards. Everyone made a unique holder using different papers and it was fun to see how different pieces of DSP really changed the look of this coordinating card holder and card set. For favors, I made everyone a one sheet cookie box just like the ones that I posted HERE. For the inside of the boxes, I decided to go with a no calorie option and found travel sample sizes for that new shampoo and conditioner called Clear at my local Safeway store. I simply added shimmering raffia around the bottles and it was a quick and simple project to complete!

For my final favorite pin this week, I saw a funny poem below based on Dr. Suess' book Cat in the Hat. I'm going to print up a version for the inside of birthday cards for friends and relatives celebrating their golden years who would appreciate a little levity on the subject of aging!

I think I'll modify the line "I look like hell" to "This feels like Hell!"...and modify "Have trouble pooping" to "Got trouble pooping". It's been another fine week admiring the creativity of some very talented paper crafters!

PIN IT FRIDAY FAVS: One Sheet Cookie Box and More

One of my terrific finds on Pinterest this last week was the one sheet cookie box!



LOVE this idea for so many gift possibilities! Here is my version:

I would recommend using a heavier weight DSP for this project. Click HERE for the directions as shown on Holly's Ribbon and Glue blog or take a look at her post below for this quick and easy box:

How to make a One Sheet Cookie Box:

• Score one sheet of 12 x12 paper at  3" and 9" 
•  Rotate paper and Score at 1", 3 1/2", 6 1/2" and 9".

• Cut down middle score lines
• Cut tab off top of sheet to make lid.  
• I like to leave the tabs long inside to give

           the box a little more support.

•  Fold on score lines and 
• Tape with strong adhesive

Voila!  A simple One Sheet Cookie Box

with endless gift possibilities.

I wanted to create a simple but beautiful way to give my cards for gifts to people like my dear MIL who loves my handmade cards. This is the holder I designed and a pdf of instructions can be found at the end of this post:

MEASUREMENTS:

Start with a piece of 12" x12" double-sided

medium weight DSP that measures 11" x 8.5"

NOTE: Cut the 8.5" length first so you will

have the proper length of left over DSP to make the

belly band and four card matching cards!

Along the 11" side, score at:

1/4", 1/2", 5 1/4", 5 3/4", 10 1/2" and 10 3/4"

Along the 8 1/2" side, score at:

6" and 6 1/4"

Cut away the black sections then add the small glue dot halves (on the inside surface) and red sticky tape (on the outside surface) as shown above and in the pdf at the end of this post.

Fold the lower sections up and adhere with the red sticky tape and glue dots. Keep the glue dots and edge of the DSP off of the fold lines. 

To make the belly band, use the scrap piece left over from the card holder. Cut a 2 1/4" x 12" piece of DSP. Score along the 12" length at 1/2" and then add a tiny bit more than 1" for the second score line. Finger fold the belly band around the holder so that it fits well but still allows the band to slide up on the card holder. Use a pencil to determine how much DSP to remove where the final seam occurs on the back. 

I use red sticky tape near the fold line on the 1/2" fold line so that the band won't come apart:

I made one more set for a friend this past week:

After making the belly band, use the

1 1/2" x 12" piece of left over DSP to

make four cards for your holder. Along

the 12" length, cut every 3" to create

four strips that are 1 1/2" x 3". Use a pencil and

place a mark at 1/2" and 1" along the 1 1/2" side

of each strip then cut each strip into three

pieces of 1/2" x 3".

 The white rectangle behind the three

strips measures 2" x 3 1/4".

HINT: To get perfect spacing between

the three strips, adhere the right strip then

the left strip and finally add the middle strip.
